Aeronautical Engineering, Career and Education
Aeronautical engineering is a branch in engineering that is involved in the design, research, manufacture and maintenance of sophisticated products including missiles, space satellite and aircrafts. Aeronautic engineers are the professionals who are able to use the principles of science and research as to transform an aeronautic product concept into an actual product. Individuals willing to study in this field are often required high levels of intelligence, self-motivation, innovation and a keen interest in the area. They should have the technical and analytical thinking required for working with highly sophisticated instruments.The educational systems vary across the world, but in order to complete an aeronautic university degree, one usually needs to spend about 7 years in university. Also, having a background in mathematics and physics before getting to university is very important. A very important part of the educational programs is the placement with various programs that will help the students to gather the industrial expertise needed to boost their career when finishing the studies. Most of the universities that offer aeronautical engineering courses also offer industrial placement that are meant to give the student a firsthand experience in their field. Those who are willing to gain more in depth expertise in specific areas have the possibility to continue studying at the postgraduate level. In this case, individuals will most likely enter the aerospace industry at the senior level, especially a level at which the salaries are the most rewarding.
Nevertheless, after finishing the university courses, students will be ready to work for employers in the aerospace industry, the Armed Forces, or they may choose to work for the government in departments such as Ministry of Defense, environment, transport and so on. Also, individuals may opt to work with small and medium employers in the branch who are responsible with providing the technical services or with manufacturing specialist products to supply this industry.
